Kiakia cover

Overview

PayCom is a payroll software app. The main goal was to create an internal tool app that allows Management personnel to pay salaries to employees within the organization while considering certain variables like; Basic pay, hours logged, check-in/out time, and overtime rate.

My role

I created the user research and sitemap for the app in this project.

Problem statement

Managing payroll is a very meticulous task that even a minor error could cost expensive damages. While managing payroll in-house is the best way to be in control of all payroll processing, it’s never just a basic back-office task. Here are the main payroll challenges that you have to consider;
Manual payroll processing - Manually keying in data and calculations make you prone to errors or duplications.
Time-consuming - Processing payroll consumes a lot of time. The time spent on the fine details of checking the accuracy of recorded hours, calculating salaries and deductions, and complying with government procedures.
Non-compliance - Payroll tax problems remain a major challenge for companies.

Solution

Automation - A specialized payroll software solves all these dilemmas and more.
Random inspection of payroll database, periodic payroll audits, and strong internal controls must be established.

Research

Payroll systems manage everything having to do with the process of paying employees and filing employment taxes. They are put in place to keep track of worked hours, calculating wages, withholding taxes and other deductions, printing and delivering checks, and paying government employment taxes.

After the research, to align business goals and users' needs I created the site map on whimsical to help me organize my thoughts and draft out the structure of the product.

Conclusion

The importance of Automating the payroll process or even outsourcing the process cannot be undermined as payroll mistakes can be very detrimental to a company. However, I look forward to learning more about how the payroll system works and design a better payroll product in the future.
